Carbo Clean® Recirc - Recirculation Filtration Canopies

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is the Carbo Clean Recirc canopy “ventless”, or will it need to exhaust outside?

The Carbo Clean Recirc canopy is classed as ventless as it does not require an external exhaust point. Designed for light duty use with all electric equipment to filter and remove grease, steam, smoke and odour from contaminated air produced via cooking processes. The Carbo Clean Recirc canopy recirculates the filtered air back into the room via the recirculation crown. The system does not remove heat produced from the cooking process and therefore the temperature within the kitchen should be controlled by an alternative method.

Please be aware that although the Carbo Clean Recirc system reduces ventilation requirements, you will still need to ensure that you provide the necessary number of air changes required by law for an enlosed workplace this may be for example, via air vents, wall/window fans or air conditioning systems.

What can I use to control the heat in the kitchen when using a Carbo Clean Recirc canopy?

To control heat and humidity you will need a secondary ventilation system. This is usually linked to a central Building Environment Management System or HVAC system.

Can I use the Carbo Clean Recirc with gas fired equipment?

No - you cannot under any circumstances use recirculating ventilation systems when using gas fired appliances for commercial use. By law gas fumes must be exhausted to atmosphere as they are dangerous and harmful to health.

Can the Carbo Clean Recirc be upgraded in the future to vent and exhaust externally?

Yes, the Carbo Clean Recirc canopy can be upgraded from standard to advanced filtration if required. It can also be altered to an extraction canopy as with the removal of the recirculation crown the internal fan can be connected to a duct which can be routed to exhaust externally. Alternatively you can remove the internal fan and use a fan box mounted externally and duct to exhaust outside.

What is the air flow rate?

The air flow rate or optimum extract flow rate required over equipment is determined by using the BESA industry standard DW/172:2018 thermal convection method of calculation applied to the equipment to be ventilated. Speak to us if you are unsure of your required air flow rate, we can calculate it for you.

Carbo Clean Recirc canopy air flow rates are based on the fan performance curves, pressure and flow characteristics relative to filter resistance, increasing as they do their job filtering impurities out of the air stream. For more fan performance information or to find out if the Carbo Clean Recirc meets your air flow rate requirements please ask.

How do I know if a Carbo Clean Recirc is sufficient for the equipment I want to use?

To check suitability contact manufacturers Target Catering Equipment for advice and the preparation of site-specifc calculations to check suitability matched to your choice of equipment.

Can I install a Carbo Clean Recirc canopy myself or does it require a specialist installer?

Provided you are a compenent person and follow manufacturers installation instructions you can install a Carbo Clean Recirc system easily using the right and proper equipment.

What is the minimum ceiling height required for use of a Carbo Clean Recirc canopy?

A standard Carbo Clean Recirc canopy requires a minimum ceiling height of 2450mm. This height will allow for the 200mm recirculation crown on top of the canopy and the 250mm front valance. If you are height restricted withing the room we can design and manufacture specials with reduced height outlets and front valance.

Are the filters included with the Carbo Clean canopy?

Filter sets are included and with the option of standard or advanced depending on the style of cooking and use the system is for. It is advisable to purchase spare replacement filter sets to hold in stock ready for when you need to replace them, but they are available for dispatch as spares typically on a 7-10 day turn around or on special overnight delivery by arrangement.

How often will I need to clean / replace the filters?

This will vary depending on the type of equipment you will be using with your system and how often it will be used.

Generally, you can see and feel when filters need changing as system performance reduces along with ventilation flow rates. Filter sets are front facing and can be easily removed to be washed and disposed of accordingly as they discolour catching effluent, becoming less effective.

If additional filter monitoring is required, we can offer an optional extra across filter pressure differential monitor which shows when filters require changing as another visual aid to when filters need cleaning and replacing. Please ask for more information on this optional extra.
