Sodexo recently commissioned Target Catering Equipment to build their first chef's theatre cooking station. Following extensive tests and development work at the Target Catering factory and development kitchen which included trials of Target's commercial induction hobs and induction cooking stations, a design was finally approved.

With chefs' briefed by Project Manager, Chris Wright, the unit was delivered to the Aberdeen Maritime Museum for a special launch to the offshore industry with a view to enhancing the levels of service and quality of food at remote sites managed by Sodexo.

The event showcased a range of á la carte food, prepared in double quick time, demonstrating the flexibility and ease at which this new style of food offer can be integrated into the more traditional canteen style service, common throughout the industry.

When the inspector calls and there are problems, who will you call? Hopefully your local catering equipment supplier; if they are still in business.
Thankfully for the Nirala Tandoori Restaurant, Tewkesbury, located in a listed building located in the heart of Tewkesbury close to the famous Tewkesbury Abbey, Target Catering Equipment, the original suppliers of their commercial kitchen ventilation system back in the 1990's, were.

The commercial kitchen ventilation system was still going strong but unscrupulous catering equipment suppliers had installed equipment not up to current safety standards during an upgrade of their kitchen equipment.
Following a gas safe, at risk report and environmental health intervention, Target Catering Equipment were called in to rectify the defects left by the other catering equipment suppliers.
Using local supliers has massive benefits and price alone is not the sustainable business model when choosing suppliers, as Mr Miah and his colleagues found out to their cost.
Please do not make the same mistake, support local suppleirs as they will look after you when things go wrong.

Commercial induction hobs were the prefered choice of Mike and Lynn Steadman for their new venture, Aztec Soft Play in Carlisle.
Already using induction hobs at home, it was an obvious decision for their new commercial kitchen to include commercial induction hobs instead of gas for the catering equipment.

Mike's all electric kitchen was chosen in preference of gas because of safety issues and ease of use, not to mention energy efficiency and lower maintenance costs.
The table top, 6 zone induction hob and Blue Seal Convection oven on a bespoke stainless steel stand, manufactured by Target Caterng Equipment, slotted exactly into postion as the last items to be ordered by the Steadman's were delivered ready for the August Bank holiday opening.

Gloucester Rowing Club Regatta 2011 attracted rowers from all over the country, including the famous Regrave family as well as Gloucester's famous Rodfords.

Target Catering Equipment sponsored races in the Junior section on Saturday and Seniors on Sunday.
Held over the August bank holiday weekend, which also saw the arrival of Tall Ships for the Tall Ships Festival in Gloucester, a specialist class for visiting pirate Jolly boats was introduced at short notice!

Hopefully as Gloucester Heritage Urban Regeration Company (GHURC) expands, this event will become as important as Henley in the rowing calendar with opportunities for sponsorship and corporate entertainment to help raise funds to build the proposed new Club House facilities alongside the new West Bank slipway.

When the owners of The Mill At Rode needed to reduce overheads they initially trialled an Induction Range Cooker with electric water chargrill. Energy costs were reviewed along with the way cooking equipment was being used and it was discovered that massive energy savings could be made by turning off the gas and switching to electric commercial induction hobs and in particular a bespoke Induction Range with electric water chargrill built in, made in Gloucester by Target Catering Equipment.
During a visit to Target Catering Equipment's demonstration kitchen, the chefs cooked their menu using Target's Induction Range Cooker with electric water chargrill. The new equipment was put to the test producing perfect chargrilled products every time, using a fraction of the heat and with less of the mess associated with conventional gas chargrill equipment.

A bespoke Induction Range Cooker was designed incorporating both heavy duty commercial induction hobs and light duty induction hobs along with a built in flush mounted water chargrill and a large convection oven was accomodated under.

The fully mobile unit which is mounted on castors, was wheeled in, plugged in and ready for cooking within minutes of being delivered. It can also be easily moved for cleaning behind and the flush mounted cook top can be used for food preparation when not in use for cooking.
The new Induction Range Cooker with electric water chargrill was funded using one of the last Carbon Trust Interest Free Loans. Target Catering Equipment also offers funding through leading finance companies, subject to terms and conditions, to assist with the purchase of new energy saving equipment.

Another benefit of the Induction Range Cooker with electric water chargrill was the reduced ventilation requirement which in turn meant reduced noise in the kitchen and no expensive gas safety interlock system as the old gas range had now been removed.
The Induction Range Cooker with electric water chargrill creates a cooler, more comfortable cooking environment with less running costs. This has to make sense for today’s modern kitchen environments.
Why not take the 20% Challenge to reduce your energy spend and reduce your carbon footprint? |

The Talgarth Mill project, chose induction hobs from Target Catering Equipment for the cafe and bakery kitchen and Target's commercial kitchen design studio to help remodel the kitchen in a community project funded with a grant from the Big Lottery Fund.

The Talgarth Mill project, revitalising and restoring a Grade II, 18th century derelict water mill, headed by "village champion" Dr Anne Hillyer and working with local building contractors Osborne Builders, called on Target Catering Equipment to help design and install the kitchen for their cafe and bakery.
Working around building contrators and film crews, as Sarah Beeny filmed the latest Village SOS series for BBC TV, Target Catering Equipment installed the kitchen. The commercial kitchen ventilation system, incorporating odour control systems had to be specially designed to utilise the existing chimney flue in the Grade II listed building.

Incorporating a La Spaziale Espresso coffee machine and Lincat water boiler, the coffee and beverage station was manufactured by Target Catering Equipment at their Gloucester factory. Gram energy efficient refrigeration was chosen and installed, with it's 5 year warranty this eco friendly refrigeration will compliment the other energy efficient electric catering equipment in the kitchen at Talgarth Mill.
Alongside Talgarth Mill's traditional wood burning oven, Target Catering Equipment's induction hobs and electric ovens will provide energy efficient cooking options for the commercial kitchen.

Working to a tight time schedule, Target Catering Equipment loaned catering equipment from their own working demonstration kitchen to get the kitchen at Talgarth Mill operational in time for filming of the opening of the cafe and bakery and before building works had been completed to allow the documentary series to catch the moment for this inspirational BBC TV Series.
The leading episode of Village SOS, showing the Talgarth Mill project, will be live on BBC1 at 20.00 on Wednesday 10th August 2011.
Target Catering Equipment are proud to have been associated with the Talgarth Mill project and wish the community project all the very best for the future.

The Sustainability Centre recently chose magnetic induction hobs, incorporated into a six zone induction hob cooking station, to replace a traditional electric plate range in their Beech Cafe. Centre manager, Mary Lewis chose the induction cooking station, having successfully secured funding from the RDPE Leader funding program for the centre to acquire the energy saving induction cooking station.
The Beech Cafe, where chef Alasdair Sim creates an array of delicious organic, Fair Trade and vegetarian food, is based at The Sustainability Centre which is run by The Earthworks Trust Ltd charity and located near East Meon, Petersfield in Hampshire.
Energy efficiency in the kitchen is an area which is often overlooked. Kitchens are traditionally accepted as being hot places to work in, requiring high levels of ventilation to keep them cool but exhausting waste hot air from the cooking process into the atmosphere. With the introduction of magnetic induction hobs, commercial kitchens can now be cool and comfortable places to work.
When cooking using magnetic induction hobs over 90% of the heat generated is used to cook the food compared to less than 40% when cooking using traditional open gas burner or radiant plate electric hobs.

Magnetic induction hobs win hands down in the energy race and are also quick and easy to clean as nothing burns onto the Ceran glass cooking surface. The six zone induction cooking station is fully mobile and plugs into standard 13 amp plugs making installation easy as there are no special service requirements.
The Sustainability Centre offers courses in rural crafts, childrens courses and outdoor activities including camping in Tipis and Mongolian-style Yurts. By generating its own electricity from inclined roof and wall mounted PV panels The Sustainability Centre also utilises the power of the sun, this enables them to minimise energy waste and reduce running costs to a minimum.
